INTRODUCTION
TO APPLY FOR A GRANT
The Michael Angelo Charity P.E. (AMC) invites proposals for its grant program. The AMC funds the self-help efforts of ground groups in Latin America and the Caribbean to improve living conditions of the disadvantage and the excluded, enhance their capacity for decision-making and self-governance, and develop partnerships with the public sector, business and civil society. The MAC does not identify problems or suggest projects,; instead it responds to initiatives presented. Projects are selected for funding on their merits rather than by sector. IMPOTANT: The AMC only supports projects in Central, South, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Proposals may be submitted throughout the year and will be reviewed as they are received. All submissions must conform to the guidelines posted here.
CRITERIA
TO APPLY FOR A GRANT
ELIGIBILITY: The AMC only supports project in Central, South, Latin America and the Caribbean. The following are INELIGIBLE for AMC grants.
· Proposals presented or directed by government entities.
· Proposals from individuals
· Proposals from groups that do not contribute financial or in-kind resources to the proposed activities.
· Proposals associated with political parties or partisan movements
· Purely religious or sectarian activities
· Pure research
· Welfare projects of any kind, charitable institutions or proposals solely for construction and/or equipment
· Request for grants under US$5,000 or more than US$20,000
· Projects whose objectives do not encourage a shared capacity for self-held.
The AMC looks for the following in a project it funds:
· Innovative solutions to development problems
· Creative use of the community ‘s resources
· A diverse array of community voices in project development and execution
· Substantial beneficiary engagement in (a) the identification of the problem addressed, (b) the approach chosen to solve it, )c) the design of the project, and (d) management and evaluation of activities;
· Partnerships with local government , the business community and other civil society organizations;
· Potential for strengthening all participating organizations and their partnerships;
· Feasibility
· Evidence of eventual sustainability;
· Counterpart contributions from the proponent, the beneficiaries and other sources;
· The potential to generate learning;
· Measurable results;
· Evidence of beneficiaries’ enhanced capacity for self-governance.
HOW TO APPLY
Procedures
· Applications in Spanish, English, will be accepted throughout the year.
· Mailed applications should be sent directly to the MAC, program Office, P.O. Box 668046 – Miami Florida – 33166 – The MAC will not accept applications submitted by fax.
· E-mail applications must include the country of submission on the subject line.
· Please submit your application only once and wait for confirmation before contacting the MAC.
· The initial review will take five months and will yield a small number of projects to be analyzed further through site visits. Proponents no longer under consideration will be notified. Depending on the complexity of the project and the number of site visits required, reviews of successful proposals may take up to 12 months.

What is the amount of an MAC grant and the duration of MAC support?
· The size of an MAC grant depends on the needs of the proponent organization and the amount of counterpart resources mobilized, Currently, the MAC does not fund request for less than U.S.$5,000 or more then U.S.$20,000 . Grants are usually disbursable over one to three years but this period may be extended if necessary.
Can an organization submit multiple proposals?
· No. The MAC will consider only one proposal per proponent organization in any given year.
What percentage of the total grant can fund overhead (administration, professional fees, operational expenses, salaries and materials)?
· In general , The MAC does not fund proposals that request more than 25% percent in overhead expenses. Allowable overhead expenses include operations, rent , utilities, insurance, salaries, office equipment and supplies and other costs listed on the proposed budget form in the budget section of these guidelines. Usually the lower the overhead , the more attractive the proposal.
WHAT PERCENTAGE IS EXPECTED IN COUTERPART?
· Counterpart must be a component of the budget for the proposed project, but no minimum amount is required. Higher counterpart makes a proposal more attractive. Counterpart may be in cash donations or in kind, including, but not limited to, land, supplies, infrastructure, labor, and office, storage and meeting space.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT A RESPONSE TO THE PROPOSAL?
· Your organization will receive confirmation of receipt. If your project is pre-selected, the MAC will contact you for additional information within five months of submission.
PROPOSAL FORMAT

The MAC application has three required parts:
· Part 1: Covert Sheet. This must be completed with the request information.
· Part 2: Narrative. Responses to the questions cannot exceed 10 pages double-spaced in 12- point type.
· Part 3: Budget. Follow the model.
IMPORTANT: Proposals that exceed the above parameters will be rejected . Failure to submit all required material results in disqualification. Do not include attachments.

WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF AN MAC GRANT AND THE DURATION OF MAC ‘S SUPPORT?

CAN AN ORGANIZATION SUBMIT MULTIPLE PROPOSALS?
· No. proponent organizations can only submit one proposals per funding cycle.

· Allowable administrative expenses include operations, rent, utilities, insurance, salaries, office equipment and supplies and other costs listed on the costs listed on the proposed budget form in the budget form in the budget section of these guidelines.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT A RESPONSE TO THE PROPOSAL?
· Your organization will receive confirmation of receipt. Within four to six months, you will be notified of the status of the proposal.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE GOVERNING STRUCTURE AND THE OPERATING STRUCTURE?
· The governing structure refers to the organization ‘s form of leadership which might include, for example, a board of directors, general assembly , fiscal council and/or chief executive officer. The operating structure refers to the division of labor. For example, the operating structure might include an educational team, a communications team, and administrative department.
WHAT IS THE COMPOSITION OF YOUR ORGANIZATION?
· Here the word “composition” refers to the people who form the organization. An association is made of members, for example, and may also include volunteers and other interested individuals.

MAC PERSONNEL AND CONTRACTORS
GRANTEE SUPPORT

THE CHARITY REPRESENTATIVE (CF) is a full-time MAF employee assigned responsibility for a specific countries. The CR sets the directions for the program in that area: analyzes relevant proposals; visits projects under consideration for funding; presents those feasible to the review committee for its decision; and works with the applicant to finalize technical details in the proposal and the grant agreement. As the grantee’s primary MAC contact, the CR oversees the disbursement process and monitors progress via annual site visits. To contact a Charity Representative, “CLICK HERE” .
Local liaison and advisory services (LLAS) contractors offer support to MAF grantees in most countries where MAF funds projects. Local liaisons also share information on MAF programs and advise organizations on how to apply for grants. They facilitate communication between MAF grantees and Charity.
Representatives (FRs) and guide MAF grantees as to MAF procedures and requirements. At MAF’s direction, local liaisons assist grantees with training and technical assistance needs. E-mal: i michaelangelocharity@yahoo.com
DATA VERIFIERS (DV) are independent contractors who work with the MAC Office for Evaluation to ensure the accuracy of results indicator data collected by grantee for MAC ground Development Framework (GDF) database. The data verifiers visit grantees twice a year to confirm information recorded for use in tracking project results. They also provide advice to grantees on data collection methods. AUDITORS : are contracted in-country to visit grantees on site and conduct financial audits, generally six and 18 months after project initiation and once after completion.
